Sexually transmitted diseases are infections that are passed through sexual contact and can cause pain, redness, itching, swelling, and abnormal discharge. Some stay with you for your whole life. You can pass STDs to your partner and/or your baby. Some STDs may cause infertility (not being able to have a baby) later in life.
